The concept sounds great – use their tools to create one amazing avatar, and then use that same avatar across different platforms.

One day, if we are lucky, some kind of functionality like that will happen, but it won’t be a startup like ReadyPlayer.me

Yes, their system is being used by many metaverse wannabes, and so it might suit a few people.

But the metaverses that become popular, the ones that take off, the ones that dominate, will do either of these:

• create their own avatar design system
• buy a company avatar company that has positioned themselves to be bought

A major metaverse needs to control the look and feel of the system, which means their first priority is proprietary. And when you love that avatar that you designed in their system, they won’t let you export it.

Portable avatars will exist in places where they are not important, like a chat app for WordPress. That is about all we can expect.

And anyway, building the avatar in the new metaverse is part of the fun!
